Real Madrid have edged ahead of Roma in the pursuit of Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
The Giallorossi had made contact with the player’s representatives with a view to signing the 28-year-old free agent on a two-year-deal; but interest from Real Madrid, who recently sold club stalwart Iker Casillas to Porto, may mean that Roma will have to look elsewhere in their search for a goalkeeper.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, interest from Los Blancos means that the Argentine — who left Sampdoria at the end of the season — will take his time to decide his next career move. Premier League side Manchester United would also eyeing the shot-stopper as their fifth summer signing.
Romero, who has 64 caps for Argentina, joined Sampdoria from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2011, but left the Serie A side at the end of last season after his contract expired.
