Lazio captain Lucas Biglia will miss the trip to Bayern Leverkusen in their Champions League play-off second leg.
The Argentine international suffered an injury in the Biancocelesti’s 2-1 victory over Bologna on the opening day of the Serie A season and will not recover for the match in Germany
Il Tempo reports that the 29-year-old will not play a part in the match which will force coach Stefano Pioli to change his tactics with a three-man defence possible, although he is expected to choose a 4-3-3 formation.
Youngster Danilo Cataldi, who was substituted on to replace Biglia on Saturday night, will most likely replace him again on Wednesday in the centre of the park.
The Italians hold a 1-0 lead over Leverkusen from the first leg and will hope to retain that lead to qualify for Europe’s top club competition, while the loser of the tie will compete in the Europa League.
