Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel is a step closer to joining Napoli after an offer was made for the Belgian international.
Witsel joined Zenit in 2012 and has since won the Russian treble of the Super League, the Cup and the Super Cup, and his appearances in the limelight at Euro 2016 have also attracted interest.
According to GazzaMercato, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has put an offer of around €22 million for the 27-year-old on the table plus bonuses, and the next step is to convince the player himself that the transfer is a positive one.
As a Zenit player, Witsel has scored 21 goals in 157 appearances and assisted a further 11, and has also had stints at Benfica and Standard Liege during his career.
