Enrico Preziosi GenoaGenoa president Enrico Preziosi has turned around to quash the possibility of the Grifone bringing in out-of-favour Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

Back in May, the Genoa president had already — albeit coyly — opened the door to a potential approach for the Italian striker.

In a long interview with Italian media on Friday Preziosi returned on the Balotelli question, but this time ruling out the move altogether.

“My son had asked me about Balotelli [to Genoa],” Preziosi said to Corriere della Sera.

“But Balotelli has a salary [at Liverpool] that we cannot afford. He would have to accept earning a lot less.”

Liverpool have been shopping the Italian striker around, first offering him in a part-exchange deal for Fiorentina’s Mario Gomez and most recently offering him to Lazio. The Merseyside club flew out on pre-season tour to Southeast Asia and Australia, leaving behind the Italian international.
