Genoa v Lazio – Preview: Grifone and Aquile aim to bounce back from defeats

Perotti penalty - Lazio v GenoaGenoa will host Lazio at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday night as both teams try to bounce back from defeats on Week 23.

The Rossoblu lost 1-0 to Juventus on Wednesday night and they have not won a game in three rounds. They are equal 16th in Serie A with city rivals Sampdoria with 24 points and they are five points away from the relegation zone.

The Biancocelesti were defeated 2-0 by Serie A leaders Napoli and it was their first loss in seven matches. They are currently in ninth spot in the league with 32 points and they nine points away from city rivals Roma, who are in fifth place and occupy the final spot for Europa League qualification.

Lazio won their previous encounter this season against Genoa 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico back in Week 5; Filip Djordjevic and Felipe Anderson scored both goals for Stefano Pioli’s side. Gian Piero Gasperini’s team registered two 1-0 wins when these two played against each other last season but Mauricio Pinilla and Diego Perotti, who scored in both games, are now at Atalanta and Roma respectively.

The Grifone have been reliant on Leonardo Pavoletti for goals this season. The former Sassuolo striker has scored 10 goals in 16 league matches so far. Serge Gakpe is the closest to him with three goals in 13 games but he is not at Atalanta too.

Genoa will be at full strength but Blerim Dzemaili, Armando Izzo and Tomas Rincon are a yellow card away from being suspended.

Lazio will still be missing Alessandro Matri because of suspension but Danilo Cataldi and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will return from their bans. Lucas Biglia and Stefan De Vrij have long-term injuries and Ricardo Kishna has a knee injury while Stefan Radu and Edson Braafheid are doubts for this game.
